PSA Launches AI Playbooks for Agriculture and SMEs to Promote Responsible AI Adoption in India

In a significant step toward harnessing Artificial Intelligence for national growth, Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India, Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, has launched three key publications — AI Playbooks for Agriculture and SMEs, and an AI Sandbox White Paper. These initiatives aim to accelerate Responsible AI Adoption across India and promote technology-driven transformation in vital sectors.

Empowering Agriculture and SMEs with AI

The newly introduced AI Playbooks are designed to offer practical, step-by-step roadmaps for deploying Artificial Intelligence solutions in Agriculture and Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
These playbooks have been created after extensive consultations and pilot projects involving multiple stakeholders, including government bodies, private industries, start-ups, academic researchers, and farmer organizations.

For agriculture, the AI Playbook highlights solutions that can improve crop yield prediction, pest and disease detection, weather-based decision-making, and precision farming. It also emphasizes the potential of AI in optimizing supply chains, resource usage, and market linkages, helping farmers increase productivity and profitability.

A Collaborative Framework for Responsible AI

Each publication follows a collaborative model that clearly outlines the roles and responsibilities of government, industry players, start-ups, and last-mile implementers. This model ensures that AI adoption remains inclusive, ethical, and sustainable, while keeping India’s socio-economic diversity in mind.

The AI Sandbox White Paper serves as a guiding framework for testing and scaling AI solutions responsibly, encouraging innovation without compromising privacy, safety, or transparency.

Driving India Toward a Tech-Enabled Future

Speaking at the launch, Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood emphasized that these documents are crucial for bridging the gap between innovation and implementation. They aim to ensure that AI benefits farmers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses, especially in rural and semi-urban India.

By focusing on responsible and collaborative AI adoption, these initiatives reinforce India’s vision of becoming a global leader in ethical AI-driven development.
