PM Modi Unveils Two Landmark Schemes to Boost Farmers’ Self-Reliance and Welfare

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched two transformative agricultural initiatives — the PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and the Pulse Self-Reliance Mission — aimed at strengthening the foundation of Indian farming and achieving true Aatmanirbhar Bharat in agriculture.

The launch took place during a special Krishi programme in New Delhi, where the Prime Minister said these schemes will “change the destiny of Indian farmers” and pave the way for self-sufficiency and prosperity in the agriculture sector.

Two Schemes, One Vision: Empowering Indian Farmers

PM Modi emphasized that both initiatives are designed to make India self-reliant in food production and farmer welfare.

“Today marks a historic day for India’s agricultural transformation. The PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and the Pulse Self-Reliance Mission will bring about a new era of prosperity for millions of farmers,” he said.

He further noted that agriculture has always been central to India’s development journey, and that continuous government support is vital to adapt to changing global and climatic conditions.

PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana: 100 Districts to See Focused Growth

Under this ambitious scheme, 100 districts have been carefully identified based on three parameters:

  1. Crop yield levels

  2. Frequency of cultivation per field

  3. Availability of credit and investment facilities for farmers

The initiative aims to combine and streamline 36 different government programs under one umbrella to ensure better resource utilization and targeted growth.

PM Modi highlighted that the goal is to uplift low-yield regions, improve irrigation access, enhance financial support, and ultimately boost farmers’ income.

Pulse Self-Reliance Mission: Empowering Future Generations

The Dalhan Aatmanirbharta Mission, launched with an investment of ₹11,440 crore, seeks to not only increase pulses production and productivity but also promote nutritional security.

The Prime Minister explained that while cereals like wheat and rice meet hunger needs, pulses play a crucial role in providing protein and nutrition, particularly for vegetarians.

“This is not just about increasing pulse output — it’s about securing the health of future generations,” PM Modi said.

He urged policymakers, farmers, and researchers to prioritize protein-rich crops to ensure balanced nutrition for every Indian household.

Reforms Rooted in Progress

Reflecting on the agricultural reforms since 2014, PM Modi mentioned that his government has been working “from seeds to markets” to strengthen the farming ecosystem.
Continuous investment, innovation, and policy support have become the core of the country’s agricultural development strategy.
